Hi, I’m Jierui Chen.

I'm a passionate digital product & architectural designer with over 4 years of experience in architecture, user research, and product design. My expertise lies in crafting immersive physical and digital spaces tailored to diverse user needs. I am also observant and keen on documenting life's challenges and solving them using my multidisciplinary skills.

This portfolio showcases my work in UXUI design, architecture, and motion design from 2020 to 2024. It features Studio projects and industrial projects, highlighting individual and collaborative efforts. It demonstrates my skills, including 3D modelling using Rhino/Blender, various rendering techniques, and UIUX design using Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud.

Summary and Introduction for Each Project (For MDM Application)

The first two featured projects are individual and conceptual user interface designs with a focus on the user’s experience.

1. Pinterest MR:

As a 3D designer, I realized the inefficiency of the 3D design ideation workflow and process. The Pinterest for Mixed Reality proposal aims to simplify 3D design and modelling using mixed reality (MR) and AI-generated content. By harnessing Pinterest's vast image data and keywords, I proposed a Pinterest MR version with image-to-3D model generation capabilities, aiming to streamline the 3D design process and make it as simple as a 2D collage. I've finalized the user interface and user flow. To make it compatible with VR devices, I'm utilizing Blender for scene modeling and acquiring proficiency in Unity C# for basic interactivity. Moving forward, my passion is to partner with teammates possessing backgrounds in programming and scene design during my graduate studies. Collectively, we aim to deliver a comprehensive VR project, conducting tests and experiences on platforms such as Pico and Quest.

2. Rehousing App:

The Rehousing App merges architecture, UX/UI design, and public service to address the housing crisis in North America. It is a UX design proposal based on the Housing Multitude & Rehousing Exhibition at the University of Toronto, John H. Daniels Architecture Faculty. This interdisciplinary endeavour demonstrates my ability to translate academic research into accessible information platforms for the public, whereas the primary users are new immigrants unfamiliar with housing policies. This platform assists users in identifying suitable housing options and available subsidies, fostering inclusivity.

I engaged in collaborative industry projects during my internships in North America and Asia. The following two projects showcase my internship work, where I was involved in the entire design process.

3. PolarisJobs

At PolarisJobs, a startup AI recruiting platform in the US, I collaborated with 20 other designers, PMs, and developers. Together, we successfully launched the initial release of our AI-driven SaaS B2B product, specifically tailored for SMBs, taking it from concept to reality. I played a key role in leading the design of AI shortlisting features, significantly streamlining the talent assessment process. Over the four iterations, the design evolved, and the final prototypes were rigorously validated through usability testing involving 10 beta users. Our design was recognized and honored with the MUSE Creative Silver Award in 2023.

4. CofePlus

CofePlus, a multinational technology company headquartered in Shanghai, specializes in robotic baristas. Through thorough market research and cross-cultural user habitat analysis, my team and I have crafted new user flows facilitating interactions between the robotic system and coffee enthusiasts. We aims to support the company's expansion into the North American market. I am concentrating on user research specific to the Canadian market and overseeing the product redesign, which involves modeling and rendering.

As a playground, the last section shows my architectural design and other design works.

5. Architecture & Other Works

In the realm of architecture, my human-centred parametric design project illustrates how data influences spatial structures. Furthermore, my architecture studio works demonstrate my collaboration, fabrication, and 3D printing proficiency. My model was selected for the Daniels End-of-Year Show 2022–23.

I invite you to explore this portfolio, a testament to my diverse skillset and innovative approach to design challenges.
